Why use a side ventilation motor?

In classic greenhouses, side ventilation is often opened manually using a handle and a tube on which foil is wound. In larger greenhouses or with frequent temperature changes, this method of control may be impractical.

Installing an electric motor enables simpler and more reliable ventilation control, and the motor can additionally be connected to greenhouse automation, timers or Smart systems.

In this way, the system can automatically open or close the side panels depending on the temperature and other set conditions.

Required for installation:

Telescope pipes, these are two pipes, one thinner and one thicker, usually galvanized, 120cm, fi 22 and fi 28, where fi 22 fits into fi 28

Make a hole on the lower part of the telescope, i.e. on the thinner tube, which connects to the existing greenhouse structure or to a tube that is driven into the ground. On this tube, you also need to drill an 8mm hole and attach it with an M8 bolt and nuts.

Before installing the motor, it is necessary to adjust the existing mechanism for manually opening the ventilation.

If there is a part at the end of the pipe intended for manual operation, it must be removed with an angle grinder/flex.

After cutting, check whether the end of the pipe is suitable for connection to the motor and associated connecting elements and, if necessary, insert a shorter pipe and connect it with 2 self-tapping screws.

Limit switches

Depending on the motor model, it is necessary to adjust the opening and closing end positions.

The end positions prevent the motor from continuing to run after the ventilation is fully open or closed.

The greatest advantage of an electric motor comes into play when it is connected to a system for greenhouse automation.

Automation can, for example, monitor the temperature inside the greenhouse and gradually open the side ventilation when the temperature exceeds a set value.

The system can also be combined with other elements such as:

  • roof ventilation
  • temperature and humidity sensor
  • wind sensor
  • fan
  • heating
  • irrigation
  • shading

In this way, it is possible to create a complete system for automatic control of the greenhouse microclimate.
